If you follow us on instagram or signed up for the newsletter, you probably already know this - WE MOVED!! Kb headquarters has it's own studio with three BIG windows. It's amazing and we're so happy. Our old apartment had only two windows, it was dark, and it was very difficult to stay motivated to work when the desk and work space was in the living room. We've been here for about 2 weeks now and it's amazing being able to work in one room and close the door when you're done! This is something that I've learned I really need. Working from home can be a very tricky thing to navigate, but having a separate space for it makes it very enjoyable. OK LET ME SHOW YOU!
Here's my desk view! Arranging our artwork was one of the first things I did for this room. Jared and I are both designers, so having this space where we can display all of our nicknacks and various things that inspire us was really exciting. I can't wait to fill that type tray with little treasures. This is a duplex, so we don't have any closet or storage space. It has been a bit tricky finding space for everything, thankfully IKEA is a 40 minute drive to heaven. We started packing and purging about a month before we moved. It was NOT easy! I'm quick to throw away almost anything without questioning it. Jared on the other hand thinks about how the item could be used like 5 years down the line. We had to get rid of soooo much stuff. Five or so bags of clothes were donated. Lots and lots of paper was recycled.
I've been wanting this ikea cart for a loonnnggg time. It stores my pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers, etc. on the top so that my desk space can be as "clean" as possible. Even though my desk is rarely empty, having all my utensils in one area away from my desk makes it way easier to switch from working on my laptop, to screen printing, or packing orders! It also carries some small ink containers and other things I might need ASAP while screen printing. 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND!
One little corner of my desk. I write tons of lists everyday. I write everything down. I'm that person that rarely tracks things online (EXCEPT FOR MY TAXES, INVOICES, AND IMPORTANT THINGS) It's something I would like to get better at. I bought notebooks for each month because I realized that this is the best way for me to stay on top of things. Maybe that will be another blog post :) LOL i'm such a blogger now?
Close up of some minecraft mini figures :) Jared loves minecraft, I do too, so of course we put some lil guys in the type tray. Can't wait to fill it up with more little things. I found some old Pocahontas cake toppers squished in the back of an old family chair while cleaning it out today so I cleaned them off and added them to the tray. I think they are the only "childhood toys" I have lol if you would even consider them toys. Weird to think about how long they've been squished in the chair.
Like I said, we don't have any closets so we are relying on shelves and hooks! It's kinda fun trying to figure out how to make more space. These indoor/outdoor shelves were only $15 each and they do the job! We have packing supplies, containers, ink/glue/paint, supplies, random things, crates of electronic stuff, and more crammed into this space. It still need some organizing, but for now it's good!
Here's a close up of the containers! They are also from ikea lol. I'm planning on getting wayyyyyy more of these babies. They are so so useful and they look good too! Labeling made possible by scotch tape and sharpie. Would love to eventually get a label maker so i can label everything. But it works for now. These have been a great investment because I just grab the "packing orders" box and take it over to my desk when I'm ready to start packing orders. It has everything I need in it and it's so much easier than running around trying to find what I need.
Here's the view of the other side of the room! Jared has curated a very nice collection of design books over the years and now we have a nice home for all of them. I tried to kind of color coordinate them. Design books are on the top shelf and all the other books are on the middle shelf. Third shelf is all of our sketchbooks and journals.
Growing up I always had a cork board in my room and I would always pin all my favorite things on it, then take everything down when I got bored of looking at it, and redo the board. I do the same thing even now! Would be cool to have a floor to ceiling cork board one day. Oh and that chair I found the cake toppers in? I put it in this lil corner so it's a comfy reading spot.
That's it from me! Hope you liked our mini studio tour. Maybe I'll try to do a more in depth blog post when things are organized better. I'm so happy to have this space. Jared is too. I'm gonna try to get him to make a blog post so yall can learn more about him. The disco ball is hanging above his desk :) I feel like this space corresponds to the level of growth kb illustration is at. It's just enough space to explore a bit more and stretch our legs out. Good things are coming!
